The 4th Wiccan Principle states:

“We conceive of the Creative Power in the universe as manifesting through polarity – as masculine and feminine – and that this same Creative Power lies in all people, and functions through the interaction of the masculine and feminine. We value neither above the other, knowing each to be supportive of the other…”

Wicca teaches that our entire reality was created not by a single male deity but rather by the union of a creator god and a creator goddess. Life on earth is most often created through the union of two beings, and we believe Creation came about in much the same way. The Big Bang at the beginning of Space and Time can be seen as a moment of conception.

In a Wiccan worldview, this creator god and goddess embody energies that are 100% male and female respectively. But it is important to note that everything else and every one of us has both masculine and feminine energies flowing through us.

We value masculinity and femininity as supportive of each other, neither being more important or better.

Unlike nearly every other religion, Wicca is known for liberal attitudes about gender and relationships. We embrace the LGBT+ community wholeheartedly. We see no ‘sin’ in consensual acts of physical love. No reason for guilt or shame.

Acts of physical love have many health benefits from stress reduction to pain relief and improved sleep. They boost confidence and promote social bonding with our partners. The general Wiccan view is that people are far too prudish.

Acts of physical love focus, build, and release an enormous amount of energy. Because of this, it is naturally something that some choose to use in our spell-work. In fact, a powerful casting can mimic a lot of the emotions and feelings of physical love.

People have complex feelings about acts of physical love, especially the interaction between physical love and spirituality. For Wiccans, the two are intertwined. Remember our creed: “if you harm none, do as you will”. This means that physical acts of love that are forced or obtained through coercion are not okay. It is likewise unethical and harmful to promise fidelity to a partner and then ‘cheat’ on them. But there’s nothing unethical about two men or two women expressing their love physically, or three or four (or more!) people playing together. Unlike other religious paths, we fully endorse safer practices like using protection.
